Light-colored exposed concrete amidst tall plane trees

In order to prevent the new building from appearing bulky in the park, the cafeteria hides 40% of the building's mass underground. The "floating box" made of exposed concrete stands out from the surrounding greenery and deliberately contrasts with the two nearby school buildings (ca.1910).

With a 25 m long window front, the cafeteria opens up to the park to the south. Following the proportions of the golden section, the finely structured glass front allows plenty of light into the dining room behind it. In front of it is a loggia, which serves as both a dining area and a bench. An outdoor terrace is provided under the 35 m high plane tree, so that the location in the park can be used appropriately every six months. The majority of the functional rooms, such as kitchens, storage and delivery rooms, are located in the basement and are lit by a north-facing partition.

The sandwich elements as precast concrete elements made of white exposed concrete are developed as a plug-in construction. The three-shell concrete elements contain a core of 16 cm mineral wool and achieve ENEV 2009 with a high level of planning effort.

The cafeteria has become a pleasant meeting place on the school grounds - homework is done here as well as theater and concerts, teachers' conferences are held and high school graduates have discovered the space as a gallery.
